Tips for Taking Care of Your Dryer

Like any other household appliance, the dryer sometimes can suffer from normal wear and tear and get damaged if not properly maintained. Read this blog post to learn some tips on how to take care of your clothes dryer and keep it in good running condition for a long time.

Do Not Overload It

Overloading the machine can cause some serious problems because it can strain the mechanism that rotates and vibrates the drum. The pulleys, drum belts, and bearings attached to it receive a significant amount of friction during cycles, which causes breakdowns. The heat generated from that friction can even burn or melt the belt.

Motor overheating is another problem that is usually caused by overloading the machine. One way to troubleshoot this is to temporarily turn the dryer off and let the motor cool down. Note that repeated overheating can cause shorten the motor’s life span. And as a result, the component should be replaced by an appliance technician.

Clean the Lint Filter Regularly

Many strands of fiber and thread get trapped in the lint filter every time the dryer is used. A large amount of lint will eventually accumulate, which can cause the machine to malfunction. So it is necessary to clean the filter regularly. You can do that by following these steps:

1. Remove the lint filter from the machine and scrape the strands of fabric and bits of thread stuck on it. You can also use a handheld vacuum cleaner to suck the lint quickly.

2. Wash the lint filter in the sink using soap and warm water, and then let it dry.

3. Check where the filter is located and clean it as well before putting the lint filter back.
